The International Symposium on Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy and Physiotherapy in Intensive Care (SIFR), in its twentieth edition, arrives at Ilha da Magia.
This event, which also hosts the Brazilian Congresses of Respiratory, Cardiovascular and Intensive Care Physiotherapy, represents the meeting point for Brazilian Physiotherapists and from all over the world, interested in sharing experiences, evolving professionally, reviewing and making new friends.
Keeping the tradition of growing with each edition, the XX SIFR will incorporate three new events (I South American Congress of Respiratory, Cardiovascular and Intensive Care Physiotherapy; Congress of the Latin American Society of Respiratory Care; and II Brazilian Congress of Respiratory Physiotherapy in Sleep Disorders ), and several intra-congress activities, bringing together a record number of national and international speakers, who will discuss the most current and relevant topics from the different areas of expertise of our specialties.
Proof of the event’s continued growth is the increased participation, among registrants and speakers, of colleagues from Spanish-speaking countries. In this sense, in order to provide the best possible use of the event, in an unprecedented way, in this edition, the SIFR will have simultaneous translation Portuguese-Spanish-English, at the times of the activities of international guests, obeying the speaker’s source language.
In this way, we understand that we take another fundamental step towards the effective internationalization of the ASSOBRAFIR and SIFR brands, in addition to contributing to a closer relationship between the various entities representing Physiotherapy / Respiratory, Cardiovascular and Intensive Care Kinesiology in Latin America.
Together with the committees involved in the organization of this great event, we are determined to make this the biggest and best SIFR ever, and we will spare no effort to welcome everyone with the joy, hospitality, organization and professionalism that mark this management of ASSOBRAFIR.
We are waiting for you at the XX SIFR, to once again, live unforgettable moments together!
Flávio Maciel Dias de Andrade
Welcome to a “Manezinha” cream!
Welcome to Florianópolis, this welcoming island with maximum diversity!
It is with great satisfaction and honor that I preside over the XX SIFR, an event of a technical and scientific character which will be contemplated with many stories in Ilha da Magia, nickname given to the beautiful capital of Santa Catarina for its natural beauty, excellent quality gastronomy, folklore, myths and legends.
The city of Florianópolis, besides being charming, is considered one of the best capitals to live in, one of the most sought after and most awarded destinations in Brazil, highlighted in technology and innovation, and a reference among the country’s “creative cities”.
The natives of the capital of Santa Catarina are affectionately called “Manezinhos da Ilha”. The term popularly used is due to its historical ancestry of populations of the islands of the Azores belonging to Portugal.
Translated by the poet Zininho as “A little piece of land lost in the sea”, the island has 500 thousand inhabitants and a lot of history to tell! Among them, the famous and fascinating tales about witches, recorded by Franklin Cascais. Witches are protagonists of the legends told by the natives, where they scared the fishermen, stole their boats, played with their nets and still had fun knotting the mane of horses. Legend has it that witches live among the population and there is a belief that anyone who moves to Floripa should ask the witches for permission. Don’t worry, the license for each one of you has already been granted to live unforgettable moments on Ilha da Magia!
It is in the “manezês” language, the Ilhéu and sung speech, that I invite you all to the most important and grandiose event of Respiratory Physiotherapy, Cardiovascular and Intensive Care in the world:“Ó-lhó-lhó, dear dear (a)! Fool tax if you don’t come to XX SIFR in Floripa! Go straight all the life you get here in two touches! See you that it will be the most beautiful thing! ”

Abstracts are only suitable for revision after being submitted (i.e. after you click on the “save and submit abstract” button). Otherwise, it will be saved in Draft Status when you will be able to review and submit the abstract later but only before the deadline.
NB: Abstracts that are in draft status after the deadline cannot be processed and therefore will not be considered for revision.
Changes and corrections
Once submitted, it is not possible to make any amendments to the abstract content or information such as presenter details, topic, authors list etc. The ASSOBRAFIR is not authorized to make changes to a submission. To correct your abstract, you must withdraw it and submit a new corrected version prior to the deadline (see below for withdrawal procedure). Be aware that replacement of your abstract is not possible after the deadline. In the case of mistakes/errors in your abstract noticed after the deadline, you may indicate the correction during the presentation at the conference. However, changes will not be included in the archives of the conference. If accepted, your abstract will be published as initially submitted.
If you want to withdraw an abstract already submitted, please notify us as quickly as possible at firstname.lastname@example.org stating the title and number of the abstract to be withdrawn.
Note that withdrawals are still accepted after the submission deadline, but abstracts may still appear in the archives of the conference. All abstract withdrawal requests must be done via email by 22nd February 2021 to avoid being indexed in the archives of the conference.
Step 1: Abstract Information
Maximum 200 characters (with spaces) typed in lower-case letters, except for the initial letter, abbreviations and study names. Please be aware that the abstract title might be truncated if you copy and paste it into the field and some amendments may be necessary before submission. Do not include authors, institutions, city names and trademarks in the title.
Categories (thematic areas)
You must select one of the following categories under which your abstract can be classified. Make sure you select the appropriate category as your choice will determine your abstract review process. Abstracts submitted under a category that does not correspond to its content may be given a lower score from reviewers.
Abstracts submitted to categories 9 and 10 will be evaluated and selected for presentation at the IX SOLACUR which will take place at the XX SIFR. For this, they must be submitted in Spanish or English (see item Contents of the abstract).
9. SOLACUR – Cardiorespiratory care in adults
10. SOLACUR – Cardiorespiratory care in neonatology and pediatrics
Step 2: Submission options
You may choose to submit your abstract under one of the following options:
Standard submission – Abstracts selected, if accepted, will be considered for oral or poster presentations (moderated or thematic).
Young Investigator Award (YIA): Selected abstracts will be presented orally in one of the YIA sessions: Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy (include the categories 1-4 and 7), or Critical Care Physiotherapy (includes the categories 5-7). Please tick the appropriate box in the Abstract Information section if you wish to be considered for YIA.
Special note to YIA submitters: If you are submitting the abstract on behalf of the first author/presenter, you must enter the first author’s birth date, as this will be the validation item. Abstracts with non-eligible birth dates will be automatically removed from the YIA session and classified as standard submission.
NB: To present your abstract in one of the YIA sessions, you must be born not earlier than 12th April 1986 (i.e. age less than or equal to 35 years at XX SIFR).
Note that by default the first author should be the presenter, otherwise you must inform the abstracts selection committee as soon as possible. In this case, your work will still be evaluated and may be allocated in one of three session possibilities: oral, moderate poster or thematic poster, according to the evaluation grades. Furthermore, presenters will be in an on-site competition and graded according to the following criteria: originality, scientific content, presentation, and ability to answer questions.
If your abstract is selected for a YIA session, you will receive specific instructions in advance. Prizes will be given for those achieving the best overall score during the assessment (see Awards section).
Only the presenter is eligible to prize and a distinction certificate addressed to him/her, while the certificate of the abstract presentation at the conference will be addressed to all team members.
Abstracts not selected for YIA sessions will be automatically considered as standard submission.
Technology and Innovation Award (TIA): Selected abstracts will be presented orally in the TIA session. Please tick the appropriate box in the Abstract Information section if you wish to be considered for TIA.
Special note to TIA submitters: Abstracts containing the following topics are eligible to apply for the TIA: presents solutions or proposed solutions to problems related to respiratory, cardiovascular or intensive care physiotherapy in its multiple fields (prevention, education, evaluation, intervention, management) and levels of attention (primary, secondary and tertiary care), regardless of age group. Technology and innovation can be related to products (equipment, app, software and others) and/or processes.
Note that by default the first author should be the presenter, if not, the presenter needs to be able to explain his/her role in the research. Furthermore, presenters will be in an on-site competition and graded according to criteria such as: creativity, innovation, practical application, potential impact, presentation, and ability to answer questions.
If your abstract is selected for a TIA session, you will receive specific instructions in advance. Prize will be given for those achieving the best overall score during the assessment (see Awards section).
Only the presenter is eligible to the prize and the certificate addressed to him/her, while the certificate will be addressed to all team members.
Abstracts not selected for TIA session will be automatically considered as standard submission.
Step 3: Abstract authors and institutions
Please, note that the first author should be the abstract presenter by default. Nevertheless, it can be modified via agreement form available upon request by email (email@example.com) until 22nd February 2021. In all cases, the presenter must be part of the authors list included in the submitted abstract and be able to explain his/her role in the research during presentation. You may enter up to 8 authors in the authors list including the presenter. The authors’ names will be published as listed on the submission form. Please make sure you have entered the full list of authors and their details correctly, as no changes will be possible after the abstract is submitted (see paragraph Changes and corrections above).
The authors’ names order and details (names, cities and affiliations) will be published as entered by the submitter.
The submitter certifies that he/she has permission from all authors to be listed in the conference abstract and that they are aware that their names will appear in all publications.
If none of the authors can present the abstract during the conference, the abstract should be withdrawn. Abstracts not withdrawn and not presented will be considered as “not presented” during the conference. The abstract will also be removed from the conference publications (Mobile App and Abstract book – online supplement) and the presentation certificate will not be provided.
You will be requested to inform your institution after including the presenter and co-authors in the submission form.
Step 4: Abstract content
Abstracts may be submitted in Portuguese or English (categories 1 to 8) or Spanish/English (categories 9 and 10) with accurate grammar and spelling suitable for publication. Please, revise your abstract for accurate spelling prior to submission.
Abstracts must contain original material neither published nor presented elsewhere prior to the XX SIFR (in print or electronically). Narrative literature review, common case studies (non-rare condition) or description of study protocols without results will not be accept.
Abstract submitted on clinical studies: Study involving human subjects, human material, or human data, must have been performed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki, according to the national law – if applicable, and approved by an appropriate ethics committee. Authors ought to provide institutional review board (IRB) approval number (e.g. ethics committee). If the study is registered on an indexed platform (e.g.http://clinicaltrials.gov or http://www.ensaiosclinicos.gov.br) we also encourage authors to provide the registration number. Please, notice that IRB number must be included in the appropriate field at the online submission platform.
Abstract submitted on animal studies: Study must follow the “Guide for the Care and Use of Experimental Animals” published by the National Institutes of Health (NIH,revised in 2011, 8th edition), be in agreement to the national law – if applicable, and approved by an appropriate ethics committee. Authors ought to provide institutional review board (IRB) approval number (e.g. ethics committee). If the study is registered on an indexed platform, we also encourage authors to provide the registration number. Please, notice that IRB number must be included in the appropriate field at the online submission platform.
*If your work does not involve research with humans or animals the option “does not apply” must be selected at the time of submission.
Abstracts must be structured using the following headings:
Keywords: Authors must Include 3 keywords. It is recommended to use terms from the Medical Subject Headings (MESH; http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/) or Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS; http://decs.bvs.br/).
There is no word limit to the abstracts however it should not exceed 3000 characters including spaces.
The character limit does not include the title and authors’ names. Only the abstract text and spaces are considered.
Do not cut and paste any symbol into your text; instead, use the symbols provided by clicking on the Ω icon.
Table and figures
It is NOT allowed to include TABLES or FIGURES in the abstracts.
All sources of financial support (including governmental grants) related to the abstract should be listed under the appropriate heading. All grant funding agency abbreviations should be spelt out. This information will be published. Do not include grant acknowledgements in the abstract content. Use the appropriate field at the online submission platform.
As the grading and selection process is blinded, the title and body text must not contain identifying features, i.e. information such as:
These identifying features should be replaced in the text with the word “BLINDING” in capital letters.
Also not authorised
Failure to comply with the above requirements will/may lead to automatic rejection of the submission.
Furthermore, abstracts pertaining to commercial promotion of a proprietary product will be notified to the SIFR Abstract Selection Committee.
Do not cite references in the abstract.
Do not include copyright or trademark symbols.
Limit the use of acronyms and abbreviations and define at first use in parentheses.
Step 5: Abstract preview and submission
Proofread abstracts carefully to avoid errors before submission, check spelling and grammar. The abstract will be reviewed and published (if accepted) as submitted – NO EXCEPTIONS.
Do not forget to click on the SAVE AND SUBMIT ABSTRACT button to validate your abstract submission. After having submitted your abstract, you will receive an immediate automatic confirmation by email notifying the abstract number (please make sure to state your correct email address) notifying you the abstract number. Please use this number in all future correspondences. If you do not receive this confirmation, please contact the organizing committee by email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Each author can submit up to 3 (three) abstracts. However, there is no limit to the number of abstracts that an individual may appear as co-author.
The same research cannot be submitted twice, even under a different category or with a different title. If you submit two abstracts with the same content, the abstract submission service will automatically keep the most recent abstract submitted and withdraw the other.
If you have difficulties in submitting your abstracts or if you need any further information, please contact the organizing committee (email@example.com).
All reviewers in the committee are blinded for the origin of the abstract. Each reviewer is selected by the SIFR Abstract Selection Committee to review abstracts in their category that best fits their expertise.
Submissions are peer-reviewed for scientific content, logical presentation, and current interest of the topic to the scientific community.
The final selection will be made by the SIFR Abstract Selection Committee in January 2021 that will determine the format, day and time of presentation for each abstract. No rescheduling or abstract changes will be possible.
Unless your abstract is selected for one of the awards (YIA or TIA), all accepted abstracts will be presented either as Oral Presentations or Moderated Poster or Thematic Poster Presentations, based on their grade. The presentation types are:
Presenters will have to summarise their research in an eight-minute presentation and interact with the audience afterwards. Discussions will be led by experts chairing the session. Presenters will be in competition for the “Best Oral Presentation”.
Moderated poster sessions
Posters consist of visual display of the research, which can be visited by other researchers. In this type of session, the posters will be presented in a poster format to appointed moderators in front of an audience. The audience is welcome to join in the discussion. Presenters will be in competition for the “Best Moderated Poster”.
Thematic poster sessions
Posters consist of visual display of the research, which can be visited by other researchers. Thematic poster sessions are a very popular platform where our community truly comes together to network and to exchange experiences. Presenters will be in competition for the “Best Thematic Poster”.
Presentations, including questions-and-answers, will be conducted in Portuguese/English (categories 1 – 8) or Spanish/English (categories 9 and 10). However, if you are a foreign presenter, you may choose to present in English or Spanish. In this case, the presenter must notify the Abstract Selection Committee that will provide you with specific instructions.
All abstract submissions will be notified by email until 12th February 2021 concerning the outcome of the review and selection process (i.e. accepted or not accepted). Please ensure that the email provided is accurate as all correspondences will be sent via email.
*Instructions and guidelines concerning the abstract presentation will be provided online.
